in d.c., too, the fog, a big issue this morning up and down the big cities from new york city all the way down through philadelphia, baltimore and d.c. give yourself some extra time. i'm sure we're going to have airport delays as the airports get going this morning. some people are saying it's the worst fog they've seen in a long time throughout this region. it will lift by 9:00 or 10:00 a.m. so the heart of it is right now. we will see a few showers during the day but not like yesterday where it really was a rainout in a few spots. temperatures will be very warm and humid. we are going to see a chance of showers in new york city as we go through thursday and then again over the weekend. it's over the weekend that the temperatures drop on the east coast including washington, d.c., and boston with highs in the 50s and 60s. right now all that cool air is located in montana. i'm showing you this because that white on the map is snow in montana. this is the sign of things to come. the cool, cold air coming down from billings. it will arrive tomorrow. minneapolis and kansas city. so en

this thing. it's this dynamic we've seen a lot in las vegas or perhaps atlantic city when we get a champion and challenger. the challenger has nothing to lose and goes nuts and flings punches everywhere. what does he have to lose? i don't need to mix it up with you. i'm going it to win on points and layback. sometimes that strategy wins and sometimes it doesn't. >> it's always frustrating if you're a fan to watch it fully. >> it's bizarre. >> you don't want it. s.e., i understand you were checking out some of the coverage from our friends at current? >> yeah. the reaction to this was interesting across the spectrum, but the kids at current tv had a very hard time, very hard time explaining obama's loss. but uncle al had his own theory. take a look. >> obama arrived in denver at 2:00 p.m. today just a few hours before the debate started. romney did his debate prep in denver. when you go to 5,000 feet and you only have a few hours to adjust -- >> that's interesting. >> i don't know. maybe -- >> al, can i say the first time -- >> to me this is an important point. i drank two cups of coffee bef

be said of almost every california governor. >> over the last few months we've seen major cities like stockton and san bernardino as well in california, we've seen those cities go bankrupt. what does it say about the fiscal challenges facing municipalities throughout the country? >> well i think there's a lot of challenges to cities, counties, states and federal government. the short answer is we have to learn to live within our means. i'd like to say when you go do a restaurant and you look at the items on the menu, they all look great. but we don't order everything. if we order everything, we'll die, we can't digest all that. we have to make choices, i believe if we decided to live within 95% of what the revenue brought in today we can make choices that will affect about 95% of the things we can do. when i was governor, that would be just fine and we could rein in spending and rein in our appetites on all kinds of levels, that would be a positive step forward. >> i did want get your take on the race. how would you characterize the obama campaign so far? >> i'm a big supporter of the

with it. but the president flew in to colorado too late to adapt to the mile high city. look, his own campaign team was trying to say the president didn't want to be too combative but he wasn't feisty enough. the question here is this though, we're in an election where we know governor romney has the republican vote, the president has the hard core democratic vote. governor romney needed to energize his base. he did that last night. will this have an impact on swing voters? one thing democrats are saying today in the focus groups and dial groups and polling last night looking at swing voters they say there was not a noticeable shift. maybe a few said governor romney was impressive, but they didn't see a big flood toward governor romney. wolf, make no question about this the president went into this debate with a little wind on his back, governor romney comes out having taken that wind away. >> quickly, john, a lot of democrats said to me today they're really worried that the president's lackluster performance last night may have hurt down ticket candidate, senate democrats for example

of structure and lawlessness in inner city community sincere not some radical notion, even at the time. more importantly than that, this election -- i think the overwhelming evidence is that voters want this to be a forward-looking election. that's part of the problem that romney and the rks have had, they want it to be a retrospective referendum on the first term. the voters are looking to see who will be better for the next four years? that pattern seems kind of incredible. >> that said, i can't imagine that romney will bring this up overtly but could he subtly use this in the debate? >> reporter: i don't know. i honestly don't think he's going to go there himself. this is the kind of thing that happens by outside groups or outside activists and the reality is, this is an intensely racially polarized country. barack obama will probably win somewhere around the votes of 80% of all minority voters, growing share of the electorate, but only 40% of white voter. it will be a real challenge after this election to try to bring the country together to govern. he was the first candidate ever to los
